Congratulations to the winners of Snow Sports New Zealand awards!

On Saturday the 14th a dinner was held for Snow Sports New Zealand at Base Camp in Wanaka. We would like to extend our congratulations to Andrew Pohl and Alistair Smaill who both won awards.

Well done Andrew for winning Cross Country Skier of the Year 2007. We are very lucky to have Andrew instructing for us at the Snow Farm this year. Andrew has been racing extremely well and is showing fantastic promise. We look forward to watching the progression of Andrew who is not only a fantastic skier but a wonderful advocate for the sport.

Alistair Smaill won Coach of the Year for his efforts with the New Zealand Cross Country Ski team. Alistair puts a huge amount of personal time and effort into his coaching. It is great to see the recognition of his efforts which have been so important in the success that New Zealand Cross Country Skiing has experienced recently.

Well done to all the nominees for the awards. It was great to see such a strong and successful representation for Cross Country Skiing!

Also at the weekend was the New Zealand Cross Country Ski Association AGM. There are many exciting developments within the New Zealand cross country skiing community and we are very lucky to have a strong organisation like the NZCCSA help drive these.

And back to thoughts of the upcoming winter...

It would be great to hear from those interested in a social legue competition series. This could include both cross country skiing and biathlon and most likely would include weekly competitions held on a Sunday. Please contact sarah@snowfarmnz.com to express your interest, share any ideas or even better offer assistance to help make this happen.

Here's hoping for some cooler temperatures and lots of snow!

Sarah

We are all eagerly anticipating a great season of cross country skiing.

Our official opening is planned for late June, depending on snow condition.

Karl, our groomer driver for the past three years again joins us from America on the 17th of June. We are looking forward to another year of fantastic groomed trails!

There have been a few changes with the structure of operations at the lodge for 2008. The Snow Farm will still be operating the cross country skiing from its usual area with direct access to the trail sysem. The main chages are accommodation and catering which is now being run by the Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground with Steve Gould as Manger. We are working in closely with Steve (who worked for the Snow Farm last year) so it will be business as usual.

Don't forget that there is fantastic accommodation options at the Snow Park, just 2km from the trail head. With the self contained en suited Apartments and the Woolshed bunkrooms there is now a wide selection of accommodation options on the hill. Check out www.snowparknz.com for info and inquiries.

Last month we said farewell to one of our favourite ski friends, Speed. Ever present on the trails, keen participant in picnics and Snow Farm mascot, we will miss our little four legged friend. What a life!

Biathlon continues its development at the Snow Farm this year. Work has been undertaken to install a range accessed from the trail system. With the Laser rifle and the new range we look forward to seeing further developments in this exciting sport within New Zealand.

Remember you can register for your Season Pass online. We also have information on our Locals Programme available on line . Don't forget to register to join this fantastic Programme.

The Infinity Merino Muster will be held on the 23rd of August this year. Mark this in your calendar and come join us on the snow as soon as possible to get yourself ready for this fantastic race. This years Muster Challenge starts on Sunday the 20th of July, a great way to get yourself in top form for race day!

Please note a change to the phone number to call for Snow Farm inquiries. We are now contactable on 03 443 7542. Email us  at admin@snowfarmnz.com.

Anyone who has any great photos, news or information that they feel would be good to put in upcoming newsletters please email sarah@snowfarmnz.com.

We look forward to seeing you all up on the snow soon!

Thanks
