Biathlon

Proposed bitathlon range - First draft

New Zealand is very grateful to the International Biathlon Union (IBU)for their assistance with the development of Biathlon

The IBU  have supplied NZ with a Laser rifle to help establish the sport. The rifle was delivered in April to local Biathlon group by Luvaine McDonald of the NZ Biathlon Union. Plans for pre winter instruction in the use of the rifle are currently being developed by the NZ Nordic Sports Develpment team.

The New Zealand Biathlon Union (NZBU),  the Snow Farm and the NZ Nordic Sports Develpment team are working together to build a training range close to the Snow Farm Lodge for this season. Inquiries have been made to Friedl Batsch of Australia to have the use of his laser system on the range to compliment the new rifle from the IBU. The range will be 50 M with a trail leading on the range from the existing trail system.

It is very exciting to finally be able to show case biathlon to the New Zealand skiing population and other interested people.

Courses using the laser rifle will be  currently run by the NZ Winter Sport Development team and the Snow Farm Ski school are offering Biathlon to School groups as part of the school proramme. skiing population and other interested people.
